Challenges

The central creative challenge was translating a sensitive story about memory and conflict into a concise and emotionally resonant narrative. The production combined intimate interior scenes with natural locations, forest paths and river crossings. This required maintaining visual and narrative continuity while working with changing environmental conditions and a small production structure. Another essential challenge was representing Indigenous experience with care and authenticity, avoiding stereotypes and allowing the characters, silences and territory to carry the emotional weight of the story.

Conclusion:

Raíces Quebradas became an intimate film that connects personal experience with collective memory, identity and territory. The project was presented at FICCI 61 as part of Narrar la Verdad, a space dedicated to short films exploring memory and the legacy of the Colombian conflict. The film strengthened Marly’s practice as a director, screenwriter and producer working at the intersection of Indigenous storytelling, historical memory and socially engaged cinema.
